Lithography Prints

Here are the products of my lithography class, and prints are for sale for a limited time (locally)!

What a great learning experience that class was. I highly recommend anyone interested in drawing to take a Litho course. The process is tremendous, risky, and has loads of room for error. But it's very rewarding. There's nothing like getting a first print after days of preparation. I'm going to miss it!

Also, check out this fun print, courtesy of my studio-mates:

Contest Entry

Here's something I did for Lucasfilm's art contest. The theme was "Man vs. Nature." The image was inspired from a childhood memory involving a colossal tree that my family would visit on Sundays. There was this neighborhood close to downtown that had a tree growing out of the middle of the street. And since it was downtown, the streets were narrow, and cars were parked along each side, and the space leftover to drive through was barely enough for the width of one car. And yet, such an obstacle as this had no signs, no warnings, and nothing that really said caution. So it didn't seem imposing, even though it was. It was a natural growth within an urban grid. And I found that pretty interesting. So here's my take on man versus nature in regards to growth, geometry, and spontaneity.

Noir - A Senior Illustration Show

My senior show is up in Providence for a week! If you're around the RISD campus, stop by the ISB's gallery and take a look at everyone's work. As it says above, our show is titled "Noir", and our tumblr page can be found here.

Meanwhile in studio, I've been working on a series of narrative illustrations for Ray Bradbury's "The Illustrated Man." So far I have two images done for the stories "The Veldt" and "The Fox and the Forest", and I'd like to do one for every story. Here's the first:

Decimo

Between the last post and this one, I've managed to get a website going! Here's www.timoshida.com. The section titled "Other" is still under construction, as I'm trying to do something new with my Jquery coding. When finished, I'll use that space for personal projects - including (perhaps) work from our Illustration studio's Wintersession experiment, Super ISB Fighter.

Only a few days away are portfolio reviews, and I've been working on several projects simultaneously. The following image is one of those, and it serves a very specific purpose... If you're in Providence during the first weeks of April, you might get a glance of this image should you be walking around town. Fits a black and white theme I've been going on recently, huh? Ottavo

Shaun Tan and Lynd Ward inspire me.  I am so interested in their stories without words, particularly The Arrival and Vertigo respectfully.  As a small step in that direction, I've illustrated the story of my life!  Well, it's not the entire thing, but 1 image for every year.  I have a poem that goes with them, but I'm going to have to think of a way to format it for this blog.  Maybe after I finish my typography class, I can make the whole project into a real book.  Check it out:
